Apple Bound

August 23 '98

Several itemry on the agenda this month:

1. Dissed in NYC
2. Going to NYC
3. Canada's National Newspaper
4. Gigs around these parts

1. Last Sunday (Aug 16) we read a review in the New York Times of a record by a band of Knitting Factory styles jazzbos.

Band name: Sex Mob
Album title: Din of Inequity

Need we at this juncture draw your attention to track 2 of The Hens' 2-yr-old CD Chasing Grace? Meaning either Sex Mob is a) covering a Hens tune (as if); b) they got similarly semantically inspired; or c) they ripped us off blind - the highest form of flattery.

2. We're goin' lookin' fer Sex Mob. The Hens are off to New York, playing at the Bottom Line on Sept. 25th with Blue Rodeo and Fred Eaglesmith. It's the first in a proposed Canadian Consulate/Bottom Line concert series. Picture our very own tour bus heading into Manhattan, Henrys emblazoned on its bow. Maybe a pre-show Cal-Mex dinner at the Miracle Grill. Two shows. Flash bulbs, champagne, cigars, limos, an entourage. The big time.

3. The Globe and Mail reviewed Desert Cure last week. Nice enough review, unless you like adjectives. ***

4. We'll be doing a Sunday afternoon gig at Harbourfront on Sept. 13, 2-5 pm. C'mon down, it's free! Also, we'll be at the Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa, 9pm Sunday Sept 20th, on the bill with Bill (Bourne).

Don't forget, if you want one you can order our new CD right here. Email for details. Hope y'all are well!
