Jazz is not about flat fives or sharp nines, or metric subdivisions,
or substitute chord changes. Jazz is about feeling, communication, honesty,
and soul. Jazz is not supposed to boggle the mind. Jazz is meant to enrich
the spirit. Jazz can create jubilance. Jazz can induce melancholy. Jazz can
energize. Jazz can soothe. Jazz can make you shake your head, clap your
hands, and stomp your feet. Jazz can render you spellbound and hypnotized.
Jazz can be soft or hard, heavy or light, cool or hot, bright or dark. Jazz
is for your heart. Jazz moves you. -Joshua Redman [April,1994 MOODSWING]

DD Jackson - piano
John Geggie - bass
Jean Martin - drums
Ottawa-born, New York-based, D. D. Jackson has recorded two exceptional albums
on the Justin Time label. His 1995
debut album "Peace-Song" featured tenor saxophone legend David Murray and was
nominated for two Juno awards. This May, Jackson released his follow-up, the
all trio recording "Rhythm-Dance", accompanied by John Geggie on bass and Jean
Martin on drums (both of whom are members of "Chelsea Bridge").
D. D. Jackson has performed widely in New York City, from the downtown
avant-garde Knitting Factory to Greenwich Village jazz institutions Sweet
Basil and The Village Vanguard to the prestigious Lincoln Centre. Solo
and with his trio, he has played all the major jazz festivals in Canada.
"Jackson covers a lot of territory, spending equal time in simple grooves
and tricky meters. His dynamism and whirling energy would make him an
important pianist, period; but even better, his trio is one of those
well-integrated groups whose members shift roles seamlessly"
