I do my best to keep these listings of concerts, gigs, festivals and radio
shows up to date, however, they are subject to change. It's best to confirm
the dates and times by phone. This page is only as good as the submissions

Jazz is not about flat fives or sharp nines, or metric subdivisions,
or substitute chord changes. Jazz is about feeling, communication, honesty,
and soul. Jazz is not supposed to boggle the mind. Jazz is meant to enrich
the spirit. Jazz can create jubilance. Jazz can induce melancholy. Jazz can
energize. Jazz can soothe. Jazz can make you shake your head, clap your
hands, and stomp your feet. Jazz can render you spellbound and hypnotized.
Jazz can be soft or hard, heavy or light, cool or hot, bright or dark. Jazz
is for your heart. Jazz moves you. -Joshua Redman [April,1994 MOODSWING]

Jazz Under the Grand Concert Series: Jefferson / Grant Quintet
Kelly Jefferson Kelly grew up in Regina and comes from a family of
musicians. He met Kelsley Grant while studying in McGill University's Jazz
program. Together they continued their studies at the Manhattan
School of Music, where Kelly was honoured with the 1994 Downbeat Student
Music Award for Outstanding Instrumental Soloist. Kelly has toured with the
Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and the Maynard Ferguson Big Band. Kelly presently
resides in Toronto, where he is on faculty at Humber College and is the new
saxophonist with the popular Toronto band Time Warp.
A native of Winnipeg, Kelsley studied at McGill University in Montreal and
finished his graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music. Between
1991 and 1995, he recorded two albums and toured extensively with Michel
Cusson and The Wild Unit. In 1997, his work in the Ballets Jazz de Montréal

Big Band. He also plays with the Vic Vogel Big Band and Karen Young.
