     Correlation of signal loss on MR images to PPB positive and GFP positive histology. Two representative MR images of EAE mouse brains (A,B) show discrete regions of signal loss in the mid-brain and cerebellum. Regions of signal loss are highlighted in the yellow boxes in A and B. The three images below show the region of signal void (enlarged) alongside the corresponding PPB and GFP stained tissue sections. V= ventricle, * indicates region of inflammation (C-E and F-H).      In Vivo Qualitative comparison of three groups of mice injected with live MDA-MB-231BR cancer cells, Formalin-Fixed MDA- MB-231BR cells and Doxorubicin-Treated MDA-MB-231BR cells at three time points.  All cells were labeled with MPIO.  Doxorubicin treated cells underwent apoptosis within the first 72 hours according to in vitro studies.      Single iron labeled cells detected in vivo with cellular MRI. The top image shows a 3DFIESTA image of a mouse brain after iron labeled cancer cells were injected into the heart. Discrete regions of signal loss represent cells, loss of signal is caused by iron.  One cell is identified by an arrow near the corpus callosum (CC) and the correlation region is shown in a confocal microscopy image below. Cell gives red fluorescent signal due to prior labeling with DiI and green fluorescent signal due to tranfection with GFP.
